It turns out that if the dock is charging the tablet and you close the lid, the dock will remain "on" even after the tablet is done charging. So when the dock is on it uses much more power. If you open the lid and then close it again when the transformer isn't charging, the battery does not drain and only lowers 1% every few hours.
